NHL Hockey “Enforcer” Had Brutal Childhood

I haven’t read much sports journalism since Hunter S Thompson columns no longer appear at espn.com. I found this WP profile of Donald Brashear to be riveting. I can’t imagine a more difficult childhood. To have risen to the level he has achieved is amazing. The role of a team enforcer is to protect the team’s stars and intimidate the other team through “aggressive checking.”

The depth of Mike Wise’s reporting is admirable and I found myself reaching for each new sentence in anticipation.
