Its great to get out on the bay and see the view of the city from the water. The schedule is convenient. It leaves downtown every hour on the hour. It leaves Coronado every hour on the half hour. It only costs a few bucks for a round trip ticket. The ferry landing has a nice picnic area overlooking the bridge, bay, skyline, etc. If you really want to go big, bring bikes with you or rent them from the shop on the other side ( a bit pricey last time I checked).
